Splash into Giving
Summer is heating up — and that means it’s the perfect time to cool off and Splash into Giving with our annual summer campaign! The campaign will run from July 1st – September 2nd. This year, St. Anthony’s Hospital Foundation is raising funds for Clinical Research.
Clinical research is critical to the advancement of medicine. BayCare’s St. Anthony’s Hospital is proud to be a part of the largest academic health system in West Central Florida. Through BayCare’s partnership with Northwestern Medicine, St. Anthony’s recently welcomed its second class of internal medicine residents, who engage in research opportunities.
Two recent studies funded by the Foundation include stroke research and Cystatin C AKI.
Stroke-associated pneumonia affects up to 25–30% of acute stroke patients and significantly increases hospitalization, costs, and mortality. This two-site prospective study will assess whether blood biomarkers can predict pneumonia risk and correlate with stroke severity and recovery. This project supports St. Anthony’s Hospital’s pursuit of DNV Comprehensive Stroke Center status.
For the Cystatin C AKI study, researchers will evaluate the hypothesis that Serum Cystatin C improves the early detection of contrast-induced acute kidney injury with pre-existing chronic kidney disease.
